Owens Reveals Slate for Inaugural Women’s Soccer Campaign

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's soccer head coach Danny Owens today announced the Golden Eagles' 2026 schedule, featuring 17 regular season matches and eight home games in Owens' first season leading the Black & Gold.
"I am looking forward to this first season with the team," said Owens. "I felt we had a good spring introducing the new way we see this program running in the future. There are 19 new players coming in this fall, so we are excited about a fresh start for everyone. Our nonconference schedule is competitive and one which we hope will prepare us for an always tough Sun Belt Conference schedule."
The Golden Eagles will play two preseason matches before the start of regular season competition. The first tune up for the Golden Eagles is set for Thursday, Aug. 6, at Middle Tennessee and the second against Pearl River Community College on Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex. Regular season play opens on the road as Owens coaches his first game at Alabama State on Thursday, Aug. 13.
The trip to Montgomery, Alabama, is the first of three consecutive road games to open 2026 play. Southern Miss' road swing continues to Lake Charles, Louisiana, for a tilt against McNeese on Sunday, Aug. 16, with the final match of the three-game swing taking the Golden Eagles to Starkville for a Sunday, Aug. 23, clash against Mississippi State.
Owens' home debut is set for Thursday, Aug. 27, against Southeastern at the Bell Complex in Hattiesburg. The game against the Lions is the first of a three-game homestand that sees Southern Miss take on Southeastern, Jacksonville State on Thursday, Sept. 3, and Southern on Sunday, Sept. 6.
Southern Miss gets in one final nonconference test at Nicholls on Thursday, Sept. 10, before opening Sun Belt Conference play on Friday, Sept. 18, at home against James Madison. The 2026 Sun Belt schedule sees Southern Miss play 10 matches across four weeks of competition split evenly with five home games and five road contests.
The first conference road test for the Golden Eagles comes on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Arkansas State before Southern Miss returns home for a two-game stay in Hattiesburg beginning on Sunday, Sept. 27, against Louisiana Tech. Southern Miss takes on Louisiana on Saturday, Oct. 3, to end the stay at the Bell Complex.
After a quick trip to Conway, South Carolina, for a Thursday, Oct. 8, contest at Coastal Carolina, Southern Miss returns to the Hub City for a Sunday, Oct. 11, meeting against Troy. Southern Miss then plays back-to-back games away from home beginning on Friday, Oct. 16, at South Alabama and ending on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at App State.
Southern Miss plays its final home game of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 25, against Georgia Southern before traveling to reigning regular season champion ULM to end the year on Sunday, Nov. 1.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the eight Sun Belt Conference squads will travel to Foley, Alabama, for the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championship beginning with the quarterfinals on Monday, Nov. 9. The eight-team field will be made up the two division champions and next six teams in the conference points table.
After the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 11, the Sun Belt Conference Championship Game will take place on Saturday, Nov. 14. The field for the 2026 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament will be announced on Nov. 16 with 32 first round games slated to take place from Nov. 20-22. The 2026 postseason culminates with the Women's College Cup in Cary, North Carolina, spanning from Dec. 11-14.
