HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's golf was tabbed the No. 11 seed at the NCAA Athens Regional, announced during the 2026 NCAA Men's Golf Selection Show on the Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon. The three-day event will take place May 18-20 at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The Golden Eagles are making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament after securing an at-large selection after finishing third in Sun Belt Conference Tournament early last month.
"It certainly was a long time coming for our team," said Southern Miss men's golf coach Eddie Brescher. "All the guys and coaches that have come before these guys really laid a great foundation for us to get to this point. We made an investment with the Giddis Golf Center and the Judson Family Facility over these last few years, and I look at this as a return on that investment."
The University of Georgia Golf Course is the site of one of six regional sites. The other five sites include Bermuda Run, North Carolina (Bermuda Run Country Club), Bryan, Texas (Traditions Club), Columbus, Ohio (Ohio State Golf Club), Corvallis, Oregon (Trysting Tree Golf Club) and Marana, Arizona (The Gallery Golf Club).
The low five teams and low individual from each region will qualify for a spot in the championship finals. Thirty teams and six individuals in total will compete in the finals from Friday, May 29 to Wednesday, June 3 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
