RUSTON, La. – Southern Miss Softball (7-7) suffered a loss to Louisiana Tech (11-3) on game two of the weekend series at Dr. Billy Brundrick Field following a win over the Bulldogs the night prior.
Louisiana Tech's Bryannah Campos (2-0) picks up her first complete game, allowing one hit on the afternoon.
After two fly outs and a strikeout, the Bulldogs entered the bottom of the first putting up three runs on four hits, one of which was a two-out two RBI single from junior Rosalie Dufresne resulting in a 3-0 lead for LA Tech, with Natalie Herrington getting the call to relive Olivia Christian.
The Golden Eagles attempted to muster a base runner in the third with two line outs straight at the third baseman, Aleah Brooks. The Bulldogs continued to tack on runs with two bases loaded walks, after McCall Davis stepped into the circle for Herrington, propelling them to a 5-0 lead through three innings.
Madison Johnson drew a one out walk attempting to get something started for Southern Miss but with a fielder's choice to second and another line out to third, the Bulldogs got out of the inning unscathed.
Southern Miss broke the no-hitter for LA Tech's true freshman, Campos, with Abbi Troquille driving one back up the middle for a single. Campos went back to work and got a fly out and a pop fly to end the top of the fifth.
After recording an out in the bottom of the frame, Davis gave up a single and walked the next batter to close out her outing. Abigail Morgan was the fourth Golden Eagle to enter the circle where she picked up a quick ground out. After walking one, Bulldog's Aleah Brooks hits a two-out bases clearing three RBI double to walk the afternoon off with an 8-0 mercy rule over the Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss is set to play the rubber match tomorrow, Feb. 22, at noon CT to close out the weekend series tied at 1-1.
