2/12/2026 7:30:00 PM | Women's Basketball
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Four double-figure Lady Eagles scoring efforts were not enough to overcome a 32-point second quarter by ULM as the Warhawks (12-12, 6-8 Sun Belt) defeated Southern Miss (12-13, 5-8) 85-62 on Thursday evening at Reed Green Coliseum.
Meloney Thames (Philadelphia, Miss.) led the Lady Eagles with 18 points, marking the second time leading Southern Miss in scoring in as many games. ULM's Jazmine Jackson led the Warhawks with 22 points off the bench thanks to a 6-of-9 performance beyond the arc. ULM placed five players in double-figures with four starters joining Jackson.
Southern Miss won the jump ball for the first time since Jan. 10 and connected for the game's first points on a Thames three-pointer. The Lady Eagles opened a 10-2 early lead thanks to four-straight scoring possessions to start the game.
Whitney Hart (Baton Rouge, La.) racked up seven points in the first four minutes to cap off the scoring streak and helped Southern Miss take a 15-8 lead into the first quarter media timeout. From then, ULM took control of the game. The Warhawks outscored Southern Miss 13-5 in the remainder of the first quarter and took a 21-18 lead into the second quarter after taking the lead with 34 seconds to go.
Monroe continued to up its margin, leading by 10 points three minutes into the second frame and then by 12 with 6:55 left in the second quarter. Southern Miss called a timeout to stifle a 9-0 ULM run but the Warhawks kept up the pressure. ULM crossed 40 points with 4:44 left in the first half, pushing the quarter's margin to 20-6.
ULM hit back-to-back buckets to force another Southern Miss timeout and run out an 8-0 streak and 13-2 overall run for a 49-26 overall score. The two teams traded baskets to the end of the frame with ULM taking a 53-31 lead into the locker room.
The Warhawks shot 20-of-37 (54.1 percent) in the half with seven three-point baskets while holding Southern Miss to a 37.9 percent (11-of-29) mark from the floor. ULM won the boards 27-10 over Southern Miss with nine offensive rebounds. Southern Miss' 22-point halftime deficit was the fourth time the Lady Eagles trailed by over 20 points at halftime.
ULM pressed its advantage and continue to up the deficit, reaching a 65-41 margin at the third quarter media break. ULM lead by 28, 71-43, heading into the fourth quarter. An early Southern Miss run broke the margin down to 18 points with 6:28 left to play but ULM pushed the game back to 20 points for the rest of regulation.
Carly Keats (Philadelphia, Miss.) and Thames notched double-figure second halves with 11 and 10 points, respectively, but ULM won the final two quarters 32-31. IN the game, ULM shot 50 percent (34-of-68) with 10 three-pointers while Southern Miss finished 24-of-63 (38.1 percent) and five three-pointers.
