HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team opens its fifth season of Sun Belt Conference play with a Tuesday night game at Troy. Game time is set for 7 p.m., at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the Troy campus.
The game can be seen via ESPN2, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network and through SouthernMiss.com.
The Golden Eagles (1-3) look to snap a current three-game losing streak after suffering a late come-from-behind setback at Tulane, Sept. 26, 24-21. The Trojans (2-2) look to snap a two-game losing streak of their own, after falling at Utah State 21-10, two Saturdays ago.
Southern Miss is looking to win its second consecutive league opener after registering a 38-22 win over App State at home last season.
This will also be the second trip to the state of Alabama in less than a month as Southern Miss plays in the Heart of Dixie twice for the first time since the 2022 season. Southern Miss dropped a 43-8 at Auburn last month at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
This game marks the 15th time Southern Miss has played on Tuesday during its 110 seasons. Southern Miss is 5-9 all-time on Tuesdays. The last time the Golden Eagles played on a Tuesday was during the 2023 campaign.
Quarterback Landry Lyddy is set to make his second start of the year and third of his career for the Golden Eagles against the Trojans. He has thrown for 508 yards in four games, on 38-of-62 passes with four touchdowns and just one interception. In his first start of the year against the Green Wave, Lyddy threw for 243 yards and a career-best three touchdowns.
Running back Steven Robinson leads Southern Miss on the ground with 319 yards on 72 carries and four rushing scores, while Jamarice Wilder is second on the squad in that category with 180 yards on 33 rushes and two touchdowns.
Mario Sanders continues to lead the receivers with 20 catches for 302 yards and three receiving touchdowns, followed by AJ Little with 15 grabs for 176 yards and MJ Johnson with nine receptions for 120 yards.
On defense, both Mathis Haygood and Michael Robinson III lead the way with 29 tackles apiece, while Laquan Robinson, Wesley Edison and Landon Sylvie each have posted 20 stops each. Kobi Albert leads the Nasty Bunch with three of its five interceptions this season.
Following the Troy contest, the Golden Eagles return home to play Arkansas State, Friday, Oct. 17, on ESPN+. Game time is set for 6 p.m. Today is the final day for fans to get 10 percent off of tickets for the game against the Red Wolves by clicking here.
