Hart Scores Season High in Loss at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Fourteen three-pointers from Coastal Carolina (13-9, 6-4 Sun Belt) helped the Chanticleers to an 85-67 win over Southern Miss (11-11, 5-5 Sun Belt) on Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center.

How it Happened
Coastal Carolina started the game 9-for-9 from the floor, while five of those shots were from deep. The Chanticleers' start propelled them to a 23-9 lead before they missed their first shot of the game. Tylik Weeks scored six of Southern Miss' first 11 points to weather the storm as the Golden Eagles trailed by 12 at the first media timeout.
Southern Miss held the Chanticleers scoreless for a three-minute stretch that helped the Golden Eagles cut the score to an eight-point game. Coastal Carolina, though, hit its sixth three-pointer of the half to push it back to 11. The Golden Eagles followed with a three-minute scoring drought before Tegra Izay made a free throw to make it 28-17 with 7:58 left in the half.
Coastal Carolina held Southern Miss without a field goal for seven minutes as the home team pushed the lead to 15. Izzy Hart stopped the drought with 4:36 left in the half after Weeks took a steal and fed Hart on the fastbreak.
Hart hit a three-pointer that made it 34-24 late in the half, but Reggie Hill hit his third three-pointer of the half to immediately push it back to 13. Dylan Brumfield nearly forced a turnover before the half, but the Chants recovered to score at the buzzer. Coastal Carolina shot 53.6 percent from the floor as it led 39-25 at the break.
Hart hit a three-pointer that started a quick 5-0 run for Southern Miss, which made it a 12-point game. Hart then hit another jumper after Joshua Beadle hit back-to-back jumpers that had Coastal Carolina ahead by 16 at the first media timeout.
The Golden Eagles forced three turnovers in a three-minute span that helped them to a 7-0 run. That cut the deficit to nine with just under 14 minutes left on the clock. Hill drained his third three-pointer of the game to erase Southern Miss' momentum and put Coastal Carolina up by 12 again.
Coastal Carolina hit its largest lead of the night at 17 after Rasheed Jones made his seventh three-pointer of the night. Jones later put it to 18 with a free throw with just over three minutes to play. The lead eventually grew to 21 with the Chanticleers shooting 60.9 percent from the floor in the second half.
