Volleyball Falls in Three Sets to St. Thomas to Close Out Weekend

HOUSTON, Texas – Southern Miss volleyball dropped a three-set match to St. Thomas on Saturday morning at Sharp Gym, falling 25-18, 26-24, 26-24.
In the opening set, Southern Miss traded points early but struggled with errors as St. Thomas used a mid-set run to pull ahead. Despite six kills from Sadie McAda in the frame, the Golden Eagles couldn't close the gap, falling 25-18.
The second set was tightly contested, featuring 13 ties and several lead changes. Southern Miss built momentum with service aces from Morgen Durgens and Kaylee Lowther, but St. Thomas rallied late to edge out the Golden Eagles, 26-24. McAda added five kills in the set, while Aubrey Judd contributed three.
The Golden Eagles battled in another back-and-forth third set, forcing extra points behind kills from McAda and Lillie Johnson. Southern Miss held set point at 24-23 before St. Thomas closed with three straight points to take the set 26-24 and secure the sweep.
McAda led all attackers with 16 kills, while Brynn Botkin added 14 digs to pace the back row. Durgens directed the offense with 31 assists. Both McAda and Durgens were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances.
Southern Miss will head back to Hattiesburg to open a home stint against Mercer on Friday, Sept. 12 in the Wellness Center at 4 p.m.
