Volleyball Earns Fifth Consecutive Sweep with Win Against ULM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss volleyball (10-3, 2-0 Sun Belt) swept ULM in three sets, 25-10, 25-23, 25-15, Friday night inside the Wellness Center to remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Golden Eagles dominated the opening frame, using an early 8-1 surge that included a service ace from Sunni Sheppard and kills from Lillie Johnson and Sadie McAda to pull away quickly. Brynn Botkin capped the set with one of her team-high 13 kills.

Set two was the tightest of the match, featuring four ties. Southern Miss built a 14-11 advantage behind kills from McAda and Aubrey Judd, but ULM battled back to even the score at 20. Botkin and Johnson delivered key swings late, and Gaby Zovko sealed the 25-23 win with a block.

In the third, the Golden Eagles regained full control, opening on a 9-3 run fueled by back-to-back kills from McAda and Johnson. Kaylee Lowther provided a spark at the service line with two aces, while Sheppard added her second ace of the night to push the lead out of reach before McAda closed the match with her 10th kill.

Botkin led the team with 13 kills, while McAda finished with 10 kills and nine digs. Judd added seven kills on .538 hitting. Zovko paced the offense with 37 assists to go with three blocks, tying with Johnson for the team lead in blocks. Sheppard anchored the back row with a team-high 14 digs and two service aces, while Lowther also contributed two aces.

Southern Miss will travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to face Arkansas State on Oct. 3-4.
