Football Goes Through First Preseason Scrimmage Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Sun Belt Conference preseason Offensive Player of the Year Braylon Braxton (Frisco, Texas) threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns during the first Southern Miss football preseason scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Carlisle-Faulkner Field/M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Braxton hit running back Robert Briggs (Bellville, Texas) on a 13-yard scoring play as well as a 30-yard strike to Carl Chester (Manor, Texas) as the senior converted on eight pass attempts at one point.
Landry Lyddy (Stonewall, La.) added 168 yards passing, while John White (Madison, Miss.) threw for 68 yards and Jacobe Robinson tossed for 51.
While the rushers were stopped on first contact on their respective carries during the almost two-hour scrimmage, Bralon Brown (Miramar, Fla.) caught five passes for 73 yards, while Chester added five grabs for 72 yards. Davis Dalton (Madison, Miss.) added six catches for 61 yards and Jermane Hayes (University, Fla.) posted five catches for 19.
Running back Tyrese Weeks (Queens, N.Y.) added a one-yard scoring run.
The Golden Eagle defense registered four interceptions, including one for a touchdown from Kyle Davis (Bloomfield, Conn.). The other three picks came courtesy of Guylijah Theodule (Miami, Fla.), Ishmael Ibraheem (Dallas, Texas) and Avery Sledge (Hattiesburg, Miss.).
Following an off day on Sunday, Southern Miss returns to the practice fields on Monday.
