LAFAYETTE, La. – Southern Miss Softball (23-27, 10-12 Sun Belt) came up short in another tight contest against Louisiana (27-24, 13-10 Sun Belt) on Friday night, as the Ragin' Cajuns claimed a 1-0 win with a late run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Following a 2-0 win Thursday, Louisiana shutout the Golden Eagles Friday with a combined effort in the circle from Sam Ryan and Tyra Clary. Ryan earned the win after tossing six innings, giving up four hits with four strikeouts. Southern Miss senior Jana Lee dueled with Ryan, throwing the entirety of the game with five hits allowed and two walks.
After six scoreless innings, Louisiana broke through with back-to-back singles, setting up Erin Ardoin's run on an RBI groundout by Laney Credeur. The Golden Eagles threatened in the seventh, putting runners on with singles from Kayce Bennett and Shelby Allen, but Louisiana sealed the win with a diving catch on a line drive to left field.
The Ragin' Cajuns escaped a jam in the sixth, stranding three Golden Eagles. Allen and Hannah Christian started the frame with two walks, followed by a single from Carrie Green to load the bases. Ryan re-entered and escaped the situation with three straight outs, including two strikeouts, to keep the game deadlocked.
