Track and Field Banks Eight Victories at Joe Walker Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. – Southern Miss track and field earned eight event victories over the weekend at the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford.
Taliyah Lindsay led the Golden Eagles with two individual wins, taking first in the women's 100 meters (11.54) and 200 meters (23.79). She also contributed to a win in the women's 4x100-meter relay (44.62), teaming up with Valencia Watson, Kennedi Sanders and Tacherria Lawson. In addition to the relay and Lindsay's two wins, Emme Bates claimed first in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:12.83, rounding out four victories on the women's side.
The Southern Miss men also notched four first-place finishes. Javel Fullerton won the 400-meter hurdles in 51.56. Zayne Palomino cleared 2.14 meters to win the high jump, a mark that ranks 24th nationally in Division I. De'Aundre Ward earned a victory in the long jump with a leap of 7.60 meters, placing him 22nd nationally. Piers Cameron rounded out the men's victories with a throw of 18.60 meters in the shot put. In total, Southern Miss recorded 19 podium finishes throughout the meet.
The Golden Eagles will return to action Friday, April 11, at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
