
Men's Golf Finishes Eighth at Sun Belt Conference Championship Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team recorded its second lowest ever round in a league championship tournament with a 281, finishing eighth at the Sun Belt Conference Championship Wednesday at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss.
All five Golden Eagles shot par or below over the final 18 holes at the par 72, 7,157-yard course. Sophomore Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay) led the way with a four-under 68 to finish at a two-under 214 over the three-day, 54-hole event. Fernandez completed the event tied for 11th.
Junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) ended a stroke behind Fernandez at 215 to place tied for 15th after shooting a final-round 72. Freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario) added a 72 over his final circuit to total 219 and a 34th-place tie, while senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) ended with a 220 and a 41st-place tie after ending his tournament with a 220.
Sophomore Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand) rounded out the Golden Eagle finishers with a 223 and in a 54th-place with a final round 72.
Southern Miss ended the event with an 868-stroke total on the strength of its lowest round in conference championship play since 2010 season, when they shot a 280 in the Conference USA Tournament.
The top four finishers over the first three days advance to Thursday's match play with the semifinals and finals to determine a team champion. Coastal Carolina (850) heads into match play as the top seed and will play No. 4 Troy (858) in one semifinal, while Arkansas State (851) plays Georgia Southern (856) in the other. Two winners of that match will play for the championship later in the day.
