Men’s Golf Tied For 7th in 1st Round at Sun Belt Championship; Rain Suspends Play

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Due to rain late in the afternoon, the opening day of the Sun Belt Conference Championship, Monday, being played at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss., saw play suspended with the Southern Miss men's golf team tied for seventh with a three-over par score.
Being played on a par 72, 7,157-yard course, four of the five Golden Eagle golfers finished their rounds as junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) fired a two-under 70 to lead Southern Miss by tying for seventh place.
Sophomore Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay) finished a stroke back of Burnham with a 74 and sits in a 29th-place tie, while sophomore Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand) and freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario) are tied for the 34th with a 74 each.
Senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) was through 15 holes when play was suspended with a three-over par score also tying him for 34th.
The Golden Eagles were also three-over with three holes left to go in the opening round. Leader Arkansas State saw all of its team finish its first round and sit with a 10-under 278 to lead the way.
Southern Miss is tied for seventh with ULM, who also were not completed with their first round.
Play will resume at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday with the completion of the first round, before starting round two.
