Softball Continues Home Stand with Midweek Matchup Against Southeastern Louisiana

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Softball (7-12, 0-0 Sun Belt) continues its two-week homestand with a midweek matchup against Southeastern Louisiana (16-6, 0-0 Southland) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 3-2 showing at the Black & Gold Challenge, where the team hosted Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Lamar, Jacksonville State and Louisiana Tech. Southern Miss secured wins over UAPB (4-0) on Friday, Lamar (5-4) on Saturday and Jax State (3-1) on Sunday. The team has posted a 5-2 record at home this season and is set to host five more games this week.

Scouting Southeastern Louisiana
Southeastern Louisiana is led by tenth-year head coach Rick Remin, who was named the Louisiana Coach of the Year in 2024 after guiding the Lady Lions to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance last season.
SLU swept the competition at its Mardi Gras Mambo home tournament last weekend, picking up five wins against Maine, Iowa State, West Georgia, Army and Monmouth, including three shutout victories. The Lady Lions outscored opponents 35-4 in the tournament.
SLU ranks seventh nationally with 3.53 stolen bases per game, having already swiped 76 bases in 20 games. Last season, they led the nation with 175 stolen bases. Chloe Magee paces the team with 14 stolen bases this season.
Magee also places the team as one of three Lady Lions to reach 20 or more hits this season. Maria Detillier has 22 on the season, and Shelby Morris leads the team with a .400 average, producing 20 hits. Altogether, the Lady Lions lead the Southland Conference with 182 hits.
SLU's 1.65 ERA paces the Southland Conference, ranking among the top 25 nationally. Macie LaRue is undefeated on the season (5-0) with a team-high 42 strikeouts in 41 innings, giving up just 11 earned runs. Hallie Burns and Britney Lewinski have also been key contributors in the rotation, both maintaining sub-3.00 ERAs.

Southern Miss holds a 28-24 series advantage against SLU. The Lady Lions have won four straight meetings, including a 6-2 victory last season in Hammond, La. The Golden Eagles last beat SLU at home in 2016 in an 8-2 victory.

- Senior infielder Maddie Weeks extended her hitting streak to six games, the longest of her career at Southern Miss and the team's current longest active streak. Weeks led the Golden Eagles at the Black & Gold Challenge, hitting .500 with a .571 slugging percentage, tallying seven hits and eight total bases.
- Redshirt sophomore Nealy McManus made her first start since March 1, 2024, after recovering from an injury that sidelined her last season.
- Redshirt freshman catcher Kayce Bennett tied a career-high three hits in her performance against Jax State on Sunday, knocking a career-high two doubles. Her go-ahead, two-RBI double proved to be the difference in the win.
- Southern Miss pitchers combined for a 2.00 ERA over the five-game weekend. Natalie Herrington, Jana Lee and Kayla Giardina each threw complete games in the Golden Eagles' three victories. Herrington notched her first career complete game shutout, holding UAPB to two hits while tying a career-high four strikeouts. Giardina shut down Lamar's comeback effort, matching a career-high seven strikeouts and throwing a personal-high 114 pitches. Lee allowed just four hits and no earned runs while striking out three in the win over the Gamecocks to close out the weekend on a high note.
- Southern Miss recorded a season-high 11 hits in its walk-off win against Lamar, with Weeks, Lee, Ryanna Valdivia and Carrie Green each collecting two hits. Green also launched her first career home run in the fourth inning on a solo shot to put the Golden Eagles ahead.
- Freshman infielder Abbi Troquille delivered the walk-off hit against Lamar, coming off the bench to rip her first career extra-base hit on a game-winning RBI double. She also recorded her first career hit earlier in the weekend with an RBI single against UAPB.
