HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Swayze Bozeman looks to become the 20th former Southern Miss football player to appear in the Super Bowl this Sunday as his Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
The game, Super Bowl LIX, is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and can be seen on FOX.
Bozeman, who has been a part of the Chiefs' practice squad for much of the season, appeared in three games during the regular season for the American Football Conference champions and has totaled three tackles (two solo). He also has seen action in both of Kansas City's playoff tilts, garnering one special teams stop.
The Flora, Miss., native played five seasons with Southern Miss (2019-23) and two seasons at Copiah-Lincoln Community College (2017-18) during his collegiate days. During his final campaign, Bozeman played 12 games with 10 starts in 2023 in which he totaled 54 tackles, four tackles for loss and three passes defensed. He was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team in 2021 and 2020 and earned Golden Standard at the Talon Awards as the best representative of his sport in 2021.
The Southern Miss ties with the Chiefs doesn't just end with Bozeman.
In fact, the Golden Eagles have a big Kansas City flair this week as second-year assistant coach Todd Pinkston, who oversees the running backs, goes for his second championship with the franchise. Pinkston, who played for Philadelphia from 2000-06, appeared in Super Bowl XXXIX for the Eagles.
Both Eric Scott, Jr., and Jason Brownlee are also both part of the Chiefs practice squad. Scott signed with the Chiefs after being released by the Dallas Cowboys, on Sept. 3, while Brownlee, who had been with the New York Jets, was picked up earlier this year, Jan. 15, by the Chiefs.
Former Golden Eagle punter, Jerrel Wilson, holds the distinction of being the first from the program to play in the contest as he appeared in the inaugural game. Wilson also went on to play in Super Bowl IV. He is also the only other Golden Eagle player to play for the Chiefs in a Super Bowl.
Here is a listing of Southern Miss players that were on the active rosters for their respective teams in the Super Bowl:
