Southern Miss Track and Field Notches Six Podium Finishes at Music City Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Southern Miss men's and women's indoor track and field teams combined for six top-three finishes at the Music City Classic this weekend.
The Golden Eagle women secured three podium finishes. Alana Simon tied for third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.73 meters, while Jaellene Burgess finished third in the 800-meter unseeded race. Burgess also helped the distance medley relay team of Emme Bates, Olivia Smith, and Sarah Parnell claim third place with a time of 11:58.45.
The men's team also recorded three top-three finishes, led by Zayne Palomino's victory in the high jump with a mark of 2.11 meters. Tyler Hughes tied for third in the event at 2.01 meters. Tyler Nichols added another third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.53 meters.
Southern Miss returns to action Feb. 24-25 at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.
