
Softball Set to Host Ole Miss in Home Opener Thursday

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Softball (1-4, 0-0 Sun Belt) prepares to host Ole Miss (4-1, 0-0 SEC) Thursday at 6 p.m. in its home opener. Originally scheduled for Wednesday, the game was postponed to Thursday due to inclement weather.

Southern Miss Softball Complex-Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Golden Eagles return to the Southern Miss Softball Complex, where they finished last season with a 10-6 record, marking the third consecutive season that the team has recorded a .500 or better standing at home, the program's longest streak since 2008-2010.
Southern Miss and Ole Miss will face off for the third consecutive season, and for the first time in Hattiesburg since 2023.
Southern Miss opened its season at the 17-team tournament in Clearwater, Fla., facing elite competition, which included a bracket of six nationally ranked teams. Among them were No. 16 Nebraska and No. 20 Northwestern, both of whom Southern Miss battled. Southern Miss picked up a 6-2 victory at the tournament against conference opponent Marshall.

- Southern Miss senior pitcher and designated player Jana Lee earned NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team honors after her standout performance over the weekend. Building on her success as a 2024 Second Team All-Sun Belt selection, Lee picked up right where she left with two dominant outings in the circle for Southern Miss. The Albany, Ga., native pitched complete games versus Marshall and No. 20 Northwestern, registering a 1.00 ERA with only two earned runs allowed to a total of 11 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched.Â
- A total of ten Golden Eagles made their debut with the team last weekend, including six freshmen. Freshmen Hannah Christian and Kayce Bennett led the Golden Eagles with four hits apiece in Clearwater.Â
- Senior Ryanna Valdivia recorded her first career home run on a two-run shot to help lead Southern Miss to a victory against Marshall Friday.
Scouting the Competition

- Ole Miss is led by fifth-year head coach Jamie Traschel, who has led the Rebels to four consecutive NCAA Regional Appearances. She has posted a 144-97 record at Ole Miss.
- The Rebels picked up four wins at the Paradise Classic in Boca Raton, Fla., against No. 25 Clemson, Wisconsin, Missouri State and Kansas.
- Ole Miss adds 16 newcomers in 2025, with eighth freshmen and eight transfers. The Rebels are one of 14 teams in the country with four freshmen on the Softball America's Freshman Watch List.
- Taylor Malvin and Persy Llamas led Ole Miss with seven hits at the plate at the Paradise Classic. Altogether, the Rebels produced 46 hits in five games.
- Ole Miss' Miali Guachino appeared in four games last weekend, recording a 1.35 ERA with 24 strikeouts, the most in the SEC. Brianna Lopez also went 2-0 on the weekend, throwing 11 innings with a 1.64 ERA.

- Ole Miss leads the all-time series 25-12. The Golden Eagles last beat the Rebels on March 4, 2018 5-2 at the Ole Miss Tournament and last picked up a win at home versus Ole Miss on Feb. 24, 2016.Â
