The Golden Eagles got a huge three-pointer from Fallou Diagne to cut the Tiger lead to eight after LSU went on a four-minute stretch of no field goals. LSU answered with a 9-0 run to pull ahead 33-16 with six minutes to play in the first half.
Southern Miss got a late spark with a Tegra Izay and-one with under a minute to go in the half and then Diagne made a smooth turnaround jumper to cur the lead to nine with 28 seconds on the clock. Both of those baskets came after Southern Miss forced its fifth shot-clock violation of the season.
