Volleyball Opens Week Three of Conference Play Against Louisiana

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss volleyball prepares to host Louisiana in week three of conference play Friday and Saturday at the Wellness Center. Friday's game will be at 6 p.m. with Saturday's match at 2 p.m.
The Golden Eagles (11-4, 3-1 SBC) head into the weekend after a 1-1 split at Arkansas State in Jonesboro. Southern Miss fell short in a 1-3 match on Friday before responding with a 3-2 win against the Red Wolves Saturday afternoon to close the weekend. Following the five-set victory, Sadie McAda led the Golden Eagles with 21 kills and 22 digs. Brynn Botkin followed with 20 digs and three team-high aces, while Gaby Zovko directed the offense with 42 assists.
Nationally, Brynn Botkin ranks fifth in the nation this week in aces per set with .67 aces per set and is tied for ninth with 34 total aces this season. As a team, the Golden Eagles sit 12th in both 2.08 aces per set and 17.16 digs per set. The team also ranks 19th with 37.24 attacks per set. In the Sun Belt, the team leads the conference in total aces with 106 and aces per set with 2.08. Southern Miss ranks 2nd with 17.22 points per set and 17.16 digs per set.
The Ragin' Cajuns (10-4, 2-2 SBC) head into conference play after a 1-1 split against App State. Southern Miss currently sits second in the west, while Louisiana ranks third. They are led by head coach Kristi Gray, who is currently in her fifth season with the Ragin' Cajuns.
Friday's match will be Greek Night, in which chapters at Southern Miss are invited to the match, and the chapter with the highest attendance percentage will win a 65" screen TV. Saturday's match will be a Pink Out match, where all fans are encouraged to wear pink and recognize loved ones affected by breast cancer for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
