Volleyball Prepares to Face Old Dominion

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss volleyball heads over to Norfolk, Va. to battle against South Alabama on Thursday, October 23, and Friday, October 24th at 5 p.m. CST. Thursday's match will be available to view on ESPN+, while Friday's match will not be streamed.
The Golden Eagles (13-6, 5-3 SBC) head to Old Dominion to play after dropping a pair of three-set matches to South Alabama. Sadie McAda led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills, nine digs, and one ace, while Aubrey Judd and Brynn Botkin each added nine kills. Elly Stewart hit .263 with five kills and a team-high four block assists, and Emily Davis contributed six kills and two block assists. Gaby Zovko tallied 23 assists, four digs, and two aces, while Morgen Durgens added 12 assists. Sunni Sheppard anchored the back row with 12 digs and two aces as the Golden Eagles finished with 45 kills, 41 assists, four aces, and 10 total blocks in Saturday's match.
Nationally, Botkin ranks 16th in the nation this week in aces per set with .55 aces per set and is tied for 35 total aces this season. As a team, the Golden Eagles sit 19th with 1.94 aces per set. In the Sun Belt, the team leads the conference in total aces with 124 and aces per set with 1.94, as well as leading with 17.28 digs per set. Southern Miss ranks 2nd with 17.34 points per set.
The Monarchs (4-15, 1-7 SBC) head into conference play after a 1-1 split against Georgia State. Southern Miss currently sits third in the west, while Old Dominion sits seventh in the east division. They are led by head coach Fred Chao, who is currently in his sixth season with the Monarchs.
