HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's soccer (2-11-1, 1-7-0 SBC) generated a season-high attacking push on Senior Day, outshooting Arkansas State (3-5-4, 1-4-2 SBC) 18–10 with an 11–8 edge on target and a 6–0 margin in corners, but fell 5–1 on Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
The Red Wolves scored early and added a second before the half-hour, yet the Golden Eagles kept coming, pulling one back through Rhyleigh Marks in the 37th minute and continuing to create dangerous service throughout the match. Marks sparked the response with a composed, unassisted finish from a freekick at 36:09 to make it 2–1, capping a sustained spell that included shots from Taylor Stewart, Raquelle Mitchell, and Chloe Taylor. Arkansas State restored a two-goal cushion less than a minute later to take a 3–1 lead into the break, then added goals in the 60th and 79th minutes despite continued Southern Miss pressure.
The Golden Eagles' front six kept the Red Wolves under duress for long stretches, winning territory and set pieces while holding a 54–46 possession edge. Chloe Taylor put two of three shots on frame and Stewart added three attempts as Southern Miss drove numbers forward. Off the bench, Zayla Reagan energized the left side with three shots, and late looks from Avery Aldrette and Grace O'Shaughnessy forced saves as the hosts chased a second goal.
Defensively, Maddie Ellis made two first-half saves across 45 minutes, and Lena Blake added a stop after the interval while managing crosses and restarts. Southern Miss' back line drew a series of offside flags to disrupt Red Wolf runs and compressed the middle third to limit clean build-up, but Arkansas State proved clinical in transition moments.
