Volleyball Sweeps Louisiana to Stay Hot in Conference Play

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Volleyball extended their win streak with a 3-0 sweep over Louisiana (33-31, 26-24, 25-21) on Friday evening at the Wellness Center.
The Golden Eagles (12-4, 4-1 Sun Belt) battled through a back-and-forth opening set that featured 15 ties and five lead changes. After fighting off four set points, Southern Miss pulled through behind late kills from Sadie McAda and Brynn Botkin to secure the 33-31 win.
Momentum carried into the second frame, where the Golden Eagles closed on a 4-1 run capped by a service ace from Lillie Johnson to take the set, 26-24. Southern Miss then built an early lead in the third, using balanced offense and steady defense to finish off the sweep, 25-21.
McAda led the attack with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Botkin added 12 kills on a .379 hitting percentage. Johnson hit .538 with seven kills and two blocks. Morgen Durgens directed the offense with 31 assists, and Sunni Sheppard anchored the back row with 14 digs and one ace.
Southern Miss will host Louisiana again on Saturday at 2 p.m. to close the weekend series.
