The Golden Eagles enter the weekend intent on turning home momentum into points, leaning on a disciplined defensive shape, improved set-piece service, and steady goalkeeping. In the attacking third Ryan Smith, Raquelle Mitchell, and Chloe Taylor, headline a group that looks to convert transition moments early to set the tone at the Marshall Bell. USM profiles as lower shot volume but fairly efficient when chances arrive and remains perfect on penalties this season, making dead balls and second actions a key pathway to goal.
Arkansas State brings a balanced, late-surging attack that has produced 18 goals with 11 of those goals after halftime. The Red Wolves are paced by Kennedy Horn, with support from Alexia Watts, while Damaris Deschaine anchors the back with more than 770 minutes, and 39 saves. One pivotal area is set pieces, opponents have earned significantly more corners against ASU, 74 conceded to 39 taken, so Southern Miss will look to pressure restarts, win first contact, and keep the second ball alive.
Series meetings between Southern Miss and Arkansas State have favored the Golden Eagles, who are undefeated all-time at 5–0–3 since 2012 with a 14–8 goal edge. The most recent matchup finished 2–2 in Jonesboro on Oct. 13, 2024. With league positioning in play and a home crowd behind them, the Golden Eagles aim to control restarts, compress space in wide areas, and spring quick counters to author the next chapter of the series in Hattiesburg.
