Men’s Golf Opens 2024-25 Season with Opening Round of Argent Financial Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Both Supakorn Amornchaichan and Will Burnham shot rounds of two-under 70 over the opening round to lead Southern Miss to an eighth place first-round showing Sunday at the Argent Financial Classic in Choudrant, La.
Amornchaichan, the sophomore from Pattaya City, Thailand, enjoyed his seventh par or below round in his Golden Eagle career, while Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and junior college transfer Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) had a below par round in his first circuit for Southern Miss.
The duo is tied for fifth after the first 18 holes at the par 72, 7,105-yard Squire Creek Country Club.
Another newcomer, Matthew Javier, a freshman from Toronto, Ontario, added a three-over 75 to place tied for 55th, while senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.), finished with a five-over 78 and is tied for 76th. Redshirt sophomore Walker Wise (Tupelo, Miss.) was also scheduled to play but did not start his round due to illness.
The Golden Eagles shot a four-over 292 as a team score and are in a three-way tie for eighth with UAB and WKU. Rice, who holds down the top spot after 18 holes, enjoys a six-stroke lead over the Golden Eagles in the team standings.
Round two continues with 18 more holes starting at 7:30 a.m., before its final circuit comes Tuesday in the 54-hole event.
