HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf program opens the fall portion of its 2024-25 campaign Sunday at the Argent Financial Collegiate in Choudrant, La.
The Golden Eagles look to have a couple of new players in the lineup with the loss of a pair of seniors following last season. Both freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario) and junior transfer Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) join the lineup for Southern Miss along with senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.), redshirt sophomore Walker Wise (Tupelo, Miss.) and sophomore Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand).
The departing seniors for the Golden Eagles are Robbie Latter, who tallied 146 career rounds with a stroke average of 72.83, while Thongpipat Rattanayanon posted an average of 73.19 over 122 rounds.
This season marks the 18th time Southern Miss has played in this event and the squad has won the team title in each of the last two seasons.
In this year's event, 16 teams along with the Golden Eagles will vie for the crown including host Louisiana Tech, South Alabama, Houston, Louisiana, Rice, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, UAB, Abilene Christian, Nicholls, Troy, Lamar, WKU, Little Rock, Jacksonville State and ULM.
The event will take place at the par 72, 7,105-yard Squire Creek Golf Club with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m., each morning as the teams will play 18 holes daily, starting Sunday and concluding on Tuesday.
This year's event will mark the 21st year the program has hosted a tournament at its championship golf course with the first event coming in 2003. Argent Financial Group, a wealth management firm with headquarters in Ruston, is the event sponsor for a second consecutive year.
