
Volleyball Finishes Day One at Ellesyn Invitational

MISSOULA, Mont.- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles finish the first day of the Ellesyn Invitational after falling to Utah Valley 3-1 and Boise State 0-3 on Friday.
Southern Miss came out swinging, taking the first set 25-23 in a hard-fought battle.
Aysu Dalogullari led the charge with 16 kills and 12 digs, supported by Sunni Sheppard, who anchored the defense with 19 digs.
Izzy Kronenberg was also vital, scoring multiple kills at different angles in addition to a stuff block.
The Wolverines found its rhythm beginning in the second set. With each point, Utah Valley inched closer, and they ultimately took the set 25-21, evening the score.
Utah Valley's momentum continued, winning the third set 25-23 and the fourth 25-20. The Wolverines stood tall at the net with 6 blocks, helping them secure key points in the final moments.
Dalogullari finished the match with a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs. Sadie McAda also earned a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs.
Hayden Riddle had 4 blocks and 43 assists, while Sunni Sheppard finished with 19 digs.
Southern Miss also fell to Boise State in three sets following the first match.
Boise State made a strong opening statement, scoring 13 kills and putting Southern Miss on the defensive. Southern Miss responded with a four-point run, including a stuff block from Madison Baldridge and Francesca Panunzio.
Ultimately, Boise State sealed the set 25-14.
Southern Miss fought hard in the second set. Players like Torrey Tkach and Izzy Kronenberg stood their ground offensively, with Tkach scoring 6 kills and Kronenberg adding 5.
However, the Golden Eagles fell just short, with the Broncos taking set two 25-17.
The Golden Eagles were not going to give up in set three.
Southern Miss started stronger, keeping pace with Boise State and showing improved defense and attack. Tkach and Kronenberg kept pace for Southern Miss, with Tkach registering several kills that kept the score close.
Southern Miss also strengthened their defense, out-blocking Boise State with key contributions from Tkach and Baldridge.
Boise State responded with steady scoring throughout the set to finish 25-21, sealing the match 3-0.
McAda finished with 9 kills, while Panunzio earned 13 assists. Sheppard finished with 8 digs.
Southern Miss moved to 3-2 (0-0 Sun Belt), while Utah Valley improved to 4-1 (0-0 WAC) and Boise State moved up to 3-1 (0-0 Mountain West).
The Golden Eagles will play against Montana tomorrow at Noon C.T. (11 a.m. MT) to finish out the weekend.
