Volleyball Falls to Montana at Ellesyn Invitational

MISSOULA, Mont.- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles fall to Montana in a 0-3 match to close out the Ellesyn Invitational on Saturday in Missoula.

Montana started strong, posting a 7-3 run at the beginning of set one.
Â
Sadie McAda had five kills, while Madison Baldridge added three to combat the Grizzly defense.
Â
Sunni Sheppard worked to defend against the Grizzlies, while freshman Aubrey Judd recorded a stuff block.
Â
While Southern Miss worked to score, Montana's defense proved tough, holding the Golden Eagles to a 15-25 score in the first set.

In set two, the Golden Eagles came back stronger, trading points back and forth for the entirety of the set. Kills from Brynn Botkin, Aysu Dalogullari and an ace from Sheppard tied the Golden Eagles at 20-20.

The Grizzles then pushed to force a 4-1 run, ending the set 21-25.

The third set in the match remained competitive, with more back-and-forth play.

Izzy Kronenberg punched two back-to-back blocks, while McAda found multiple places to put the ball, earning seven kills in the set.

Hayden Riddle and Maggie Sewell earn a block against the Grizzlies to keep the game tight.

Sunni Sheppard anchored the defense with 14 digs, while Hayden Riddle distributed 28 assists.

Although Southern Miss put up a hard fight, Montana sealed the set with a 25-19 victory, ending the match.

McAda finished the match with a double-double, including 12 kills and 11 digs.

Riddle led the Golden Eagles in assists, earning 28.

Torrey Tkach led Southern Miss with four blocks in the match.

The Golden Eagles move to 3-3 overall (0-0 SBC) and the Grizzlies advance to 3-2 overall (0-0 Big Sky).

Southern Miss will travel to Macon, Georgia, to play in the Mercer Invitational September 13-14. Their first match will be against Presbyterian on Friday at 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET), followed by a match against Mercer at 6 p.m. CT (7 p.m. ET).
