HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team kicks off its 2024 home football schedule Saturday when they play host to Southeastern Louisiana at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium for a 6 p.m. contest.
The game can be seen via ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of Southern Miss Sports Network and audio only at SouthernMiss.com.
The Golden Eagles (0-1) look to snap a current three-game losing streak dating back to last season. Southern Miss opened the season last week with a 31-0 setback at Kentucky in a game that was hampered by lightning and rain. That inclement weather caused the start of the contest to be pushed back over two hours and the game was called early in the third quarter following more dangerous weather.
This week, Southern Miss looks to turn the page against Southeastern Louisiana as the schools meet for the 23rd time in their respective histories in football with the school from Hattiesburg holding a 19-3 record over the Lions. The Golden Eagles own a current 12-game winning streak in a series which dates to 1940, but records only the third game between the two schools this weekend since 1969.
Southern Miss saw the debut of quarterback Tate Rodemaker, a transfer from Florida State, against UK as he threw for 126 yards on 13-of-19 passes. Ethan Crawford also saw some time behind center and had a team-high 10 rushing yards on three carries.
Receiver Davis Dalton tied a season-high with three catches for 30 yards, while Kyirin Heath added his first Golden Eagle catch for 34 yards.
On defense, Dylan Lawrence led the way in the first game for Southern Miss, recording an interception on the first drive as well as a team-best six tackles.
For SLU, they come into Hattiesburg looking to rebound from a 52-0 decision at Tulane the previous week. The Lions (0-1) are coached by Frank Scelfo, who is in the seventh year at the helm of the SLU program and has posted a 37-32 record.
This game marks the first of two consecutive home games for the Golden Eagles, who play host to former Conference USA foe, USF, next Saturday at The Rock.
Tickets for the six Southern Miss home games can be purchased by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office at the corner of 4th Street and Golden Eagle Way weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
