Southern Miss in Eighth as Round Two of Hoover Invite Suspended Due to Darkness
9/16/2024 9:06:00 PM | Women's Golf
HOOVER, Ala. – Southern Miss' opening day at the Hoover Invite in Hoover, Ala., was suspended in the second round due to darkness. The women's golf team was in eighth place after the first round, while Jacee Fields fired the first round of under-par golf this season for the Golden Eagles.
Fields brought in a four-over 76 to the clubhouse during the morning round at Hoover Country Club and then delivered a one-under 71 in the second round. Only four of the six Southern Miss golfers finished the full 36 holes today. Taylor Trible fired a pair of two-over 74's as she made her return to her home state.
Freshman Louise Cuyvers answered the bell in Monday's second round as the Belgian fired a one-over 73. The career low came after Cuyvers finished nine-over par in the first round - that score did not count for Southern Miss' team score. Alma Betoret finished with a five-over 77 to start her day and then finished with a three-over 75. Both Elena Melich and Momoka Ando were unable to finish their second rounds. Melich shot a three-over 75 in the first round, while Ando finished with a five-over 77.
Sun Belt foe ULM was in the lead after one full round on Monday. The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m. and the final round will follow immediately after. Ando and Melich will both wrap up their rounds in the morning for Southern Miss.
