HATTIESBURG, Miss. – First-year head coach Colton Cowan and the Southern Miss women's golf team announced its 2024-25 schedule on Monday afternoon. Most notably, the Golden Eagles will host The Judson at the Hattiesburg Country Club for the third consecutive year.
"I am excited about the strength of our schedule this upcoming season," Cowan said. "If we want to continue developing as a program and get to where we need to be, we must play against the best. This fall will be about proving to our ladies that we have the skillset to compete at the highest level and continuing to build on our new foundations.
Southern Miss opens the season in Manhattan, Kans. at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational. The two-day event that starts on Sept. 9 will be played at Colbert Hills Golf Course. The Golden Eagles then return to the south as they tee off at the Hoover Invitational on Sept. 16 and 17 at Hoover Country Club. This year marks the third time in the last four seasons that the Golden Eagles have traveled to Hoover, Ala. and it's their first appearance since finishing first in 2022.
After the trip to Hoover, Southern Miss will play in the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. Iowa will host the event on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Finkbine Golf Course. The Golden Eagles will follow that trip with a short break before playing in The Ally at Old Waverly Country Club in West Point, Miss., which starts on Oct. 21 The in-state event will feature three rounds over three days. The Golden Eagles close out the fall schedule with The Judson at Hattiesburg Country Club. The tournament will feature two rounds on Oct. 28 and one round on Oct. 29.
"The opportunity to host here at Hattiesburg Country Club is going to be great," Cowan said. "It will showcase our great facilities and be an overall good test of golf. Getting to experience it in a tournament setting to end the fall sets us up well going into the offseason.
"The spring schedule is just as inviting, with a matchplay event to start us off in the spring to get us into the competitive mindset. Once again, we are getting different tests throughout the year to get ready to compete for a Conference Championship."
Alongside ULM, Southern Miss will host the Great River Cup to open the spring slate of tournaments on Feb. 17. The matchplay event will be played over two days at Windance Country Club. Southern Miss will then travel to Humacao, Puerto Rico to compete in the Puerto Rico Shootout. The three-day event at Palmas Athletic Club at Palmas del Mar tees off on March 4. The final two tournaments feature a stop at the Bama Beach Bash and ULM Invitational. The Bama Beach Bash is slated to be played at Gulf Shores Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Ala. and will start on March 16. The ULM Invitational at Bayou DeSiard Country Club in Monroe, La. is slated for March 31.
The Sun Belt Championships will be held at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Ala. The four-day event starts on April 14 and will feature three days of stroke play. The final two rounds will be matchplay and will be held on April 17.
