NEW ORLEANS -Â Southern Miss junior women's golfer Momoka Ando was named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference on Thursday afternoon, as announced by the conference office. The all-conference teams were determined by the Scoreboard rankings following the Sun Belt's participation in postseason play.Â
"It's been fun to be a part of Mo's journey," said Southern Miss women's golf head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "The momentum she had the previous year carried over and she came back ready to compete. She was solid for us all year and I'm excited to see what her senior year holds."
Ando turned in the lowest single-season individual stroke average in program history after averaging 72.93 strokes per round. She bested the previous record of 73.57, which she set at the conclusion of last season. Ando's 207 54-hole total at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic shattered the previous school record by four strokes after Nichada Satasuk shot a 211 at the Kiawah Island Classic in the spring of 2017.Â
The Tokyo, Japan natives 15 rounds of par or better golf is a new school record, which she also set last season after turning in 13 such rounds. Ando's season low was a four-under 68 at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and posted a total of three rounds under par during that event. Ando recorded three top-10 finishes and placed in the top-20 at six other events – her only finish outside the top-20 was a 21st-place finish at the Brickyard Collegiate.Â
Ando currently holds the school record for rounds of par or better (29) and low individual stroke average (74.12). She is 11 rounds from 100 for her career and has played in 30 career events. Ando is the fifth player in program history to earn all-conference honors at last two times – the others are Marella Canepa, Virginia Espejo, Brandi Rodriguez and Satasuk.Â
