Softball Wraps Up Regular Season with Series at South Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Softball (21-26, 9-12 Sun Belt) concludes the regular season with a final series in Mobile, Ala. against the South Alabama Jaguars (29-16-1, 14-7 Sun Belt), starting Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Golden Eagles are coming off of a series loss to No. 24 Texas State. Despite the series loss, Southern Miss started Friday with a 9-3 victory against the Bobcats, marking the program's first win against a nationally ranked opponent since beating No. 4 Florida 5-4 on March 2, 2022.
Southern Miss scored nine runs, the second most the team has scored this season in conference play, as starting pitcher Holly Craft led the team to victory with her second complete game of the season.
Craft allowed four hits, three earned runs and five walks through seven innings, while recording a career-high five strikeouts in her second win of the year as the Golden Eagle hhanded Jessica Mullins, the Sun Belt's winningest pitcher, her seventh loss of the season.
Southern Miss again competed with the Bobcats on Saturday, as both teams recorded nine hits apiece, but an RBI single in the sixth inning gave the Bobcats the 2-1 advantage it needed to even the series.
Facing a rubber match Sunday, the Golden Eagles were locked in another close match with Texas State. Despite being outhit seven to four in the match, the Bobcats batted in all of its runs with three home runs, including a solo shot from Piper Randolph in the fifth inning that gave Texas State its 4-3 victory.
Southern Miss now turns to Mobile, Ala. to face South Alabama, who won last weekend's series on the road at Troy.

- Graduate student catcher Hannah Borden hit two home runs against Texas State, breaking Amy Berman's 1999 single-season home run record of 15 home runs with a solo shot Friday. Borden also surpassed Megan Hill's record of 205 hits with her 17th home run of the season on a three-run shot Sunday, claiming sole possession for the second most hits in program history. Borden also surpassed Jessica Huerta for the second-most walks in program history. Borden trails Megan Hill's all-time program record for most RBI (151) by four.
- Junior second baseman Maddie Weeks led the Golden Eagles in Week 12 with six hits, batting a team-high .545 average through four games. Weeks started Tuesday with a career-high two hits against Ole Miss, including her first career triple. She followed the match with another multi-hit game Friday against No. 24 Texas State, recording an RBI single and double to help lead Southern Miss to its first win against a nationally ranked opponent since 2022. Weeks singled Saturday and Sunday to extend her hitting streak to five games, the longest of her career.
- Southern Miss clinched a postseason berth in the Sun Belt Tournament for the second straight season, marking the first consecutive conference tournament appearances since 2012-2013.
- The Golden Eagles finish their 2024 home slate with a 10-6 record, marking the third consecutive season with a .500 or better standing at the Southern Miss Softball Complex, the longest streak since 2008-2010.
- With one week remaining in the regular season, Southern Miss is tied with Georgia Southern and ULM at 9-12 in conference play, one game behind Marshall.

- South Alabama is led by Becky Clark, who has been at the helm of the program for 16 seasons. Clark has led the team to three Sun Belt titles and advanced to the NCAA Regional Final five times.
- Mackenzie Brasher was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after going 6-for-12 at the plate, scoring three runs with four RBI and two stolen bases. Brasher went 4-for-5 Saturday with two RBI and two runs scored. The award marked the fourth time a Jaguar has earned a weekly conference honor this season. Brasher leads the team with a .335 batting average and also with 54 hits, 33 runs scored, and leads the conference with 26 stolen bases.
- Gabby Stagner ranks eighth in the conference with 39 RBI, sixth with three triples, fifth with 14 doubles and fourth with 12 home runs.
- Olivia Lackie, the reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year, boasts a 1.36 ERA while holding opposing batters to a conference-best .180 average. Lackie has struck out 188 batters in 190 innings pitched, trailing only Jessica Mullins' 189 strikeouts in 204 innings. Lackie holds a 20-7 record entering the series.
- The Jaguars sit in third place in the Sun Belt standings at 14-7, one game behind Texas State.
