Softball Falls in Coastal Carolina Series Finale

CONWAY, S.C.-Southern Miss (17-20, 5-7 Sun Belt) fell in its final match against Coastal Carolina (23-16, 5-17 Sun Belt) Sunday 16-3 in five innings, as the Chanticleers took the series victory at St. John Stadium.
The Golden Eagles fell behind an early 9-0 start from the Chanticleers after two innings. While Southern Miss fought back in the following frame, Coastal added insurance with a seven-run fourth inning to decide the game.
Coastal Carolina's Raelee Brabham earned her 17th win of the season in the circle, throwing a complete game, while starting pitcher Loganne Stepp received the loss. Southern Miss turned to a total of four pitchers in the match, including designated player Jana Lee, BrookLynn White and Marissa Frederick.
Offensively, Coastal Carolina produced 11 hits as Brabham and the Chanticleers limited Southern Miss to two. Coastal Carolina plated ten runs from three home runs, including Riley Zana's fourth inning grand slam, her fourth of the season. Maddy Jennings led the Chanticleers with three hits and Zana recorded two hits as well.
Southern Miss was able to respond to Coastal's scoring run in the second as Lauren Lindsey led the top of the third with a single, her 16th hit of the season. After Shelby Allen drew a walk, Lee launched her third home run of the season to put the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard.
However, Coastal Carolina finished the game at-bat with five hits in the fourth inning and Brabham retired the side in order.
