Softball Takes Off to Coastal Carolina for Weekend Conference Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Softball (16-18, 4-5 Sun Belt) heads to Conway, S.C. for the first time in program history this weekend for a series against Coastal Carolina (21-15, 3-6 Sun Belt) starting Friday, April 5.
Southern Miss won its midweek contest at home 5-3 against Nicholls after trailing through five innings. The Golden Eagles erupted for five runs and five hits in the sixth to complete the comeback.
The Golden Eagles lost its series at Troy last weekend, but ended the series with a dominant 10-1 victory against the Trojans Saturday.
Southern Miss tied its season-high of 13 hits for the fourth time this season in the 10-1 win, as Hannah Borden led the team with three hits and Natalie Taylor, Maria Smith and Ryanna Valdivia each recorded two.

Southern Miss Notables
- Saturday's 10-1 win against Troy marked the ninth game of the season the Golden Eagles have recorded ten or more hits, the most since the 2022 season.
- Hannah Borden, who recently became the program's all-time home run record leader, blasted two solo shots against Troy Saturday. The graduate student catcher now has a career-high 12 home runs this season, which leads the Sun Belt, and trails the program's single season record by three home runs. Borden leads the team this season with 43 hits and a Sun Belt best 34 RBI, batting a .387 average.
- Designated player and pitcher Jana Lee, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week continued to impress in the circle. Lee pitched in every game against Troy, throwing over nine innings, allowing seven hits and just two earned runs with four strikeouts. Her 1.86 ERA over the weekend paced the team and her complete game performance Saturday led Southern Miss to the win against Troy.
- Four Golden Eagles drew two walks each against Troy, bringing Southern Miss' season total to 121, which ranks second in the Sun Belt.
Scouting Coastal Carolina
- Coastal Carolina is led by head coach Kelley Green, who is in her 15th season with the Chanticleers.
- Coastal Carolina enters the weekend with a 21-15 record, coming off of an 8-0 midweek win against the College of Charleston. The Chanticleers won one game against Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. last weekend.
- Coastal Carolina has recorded 36 home runs this season, which is tied for the second most in the Sun Belt. Iyanla De Jesus and Maddy Jennings lead the team with seven home runs each, which is tied for the third most in the conference.
- Delaney Keith leads the Chanticleers with 34 hits, followed by Riley Zana's 31 hits and DeJesus' 28 hits. The trio have started all 35 games for the team this season.
- Raelee Brabham leads Coastal Carolina with a 2.33 ERA and 14-7 record in 24 appearances in the circle this season. Brabham has thrown 111 innings, allowing 114 hits, 23 walks and 37 earned runs with 99 strikeouts, the fourth most in the conference.
