Corbacho Starts Fast at Sun Belt Women's Golf Championships

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Backed by a two-under 70 form Merche Corbacho during Monday's opening round of the Sun Belt Championships, Southern Miss women's golf is in fifth at Lakewood Golf Course in Point Clear, Ala.
Corbacho went one-under over the first nine holes and then ripped off four birdies on her back nine to vault into a tie for fourth with two other golfers. Ragini Navet, who is experiencing her first postseason tournament, fired an even-par 72 that included five birdies – she is tied for 12th through 18 holes.
Elena Melich finished with a two-over 74 and is in 24th, while Jacee Fields finished her opening round with a three-over 75. Fields, who sits in a tie for 28th, enjoyed an eagle on the 480-yard par-five at hole 16. Momoka Ando also had an eagle but did so on hole one. Ando shot a five-over 77 and is tied for 40th.
ULM leads the field after going four-under par as a team, while Texas State is three strokes behind the Warhawks. Georgia Southern, Old Dominion and Southern Miss round out the top-five. Hannah Karg (Coastal Carolina), Daniela Campillo (ULM) and Fia Lindblom (Texas State) lead the pack after shooting a three-under 69 during today's round. Corbacho trails the three by one stroke heading into the second round.
