HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss Softball (19-20, 7-7 Sun Belt) shutout Georgia State (10-30, 1-13 Sun Belt) 3-0 Saturday to earn its second series win of the season.
Following a complete game shutout from pitcher Jana Lee Friday night, junior Holly Craft delivered another complete game shutout for her first win of the season. The Raleigh, Miss. native allowed just four hits through seven innings with two strikeouts for her first complete performance with the Golden Eagles.
Led by Craft's performance in the circle, Southern Miss earned its first consecutive shutout wins since March 13-14, 2021 at Western Carolina.
The scoring started in the second inning as sophomore Kinlsey Gordon blasted a solo home run, her second home run of the season and the first since the opening week of the season.
Southern Miss continued its momentum in the third following a throwing error by the Panthers, which resulted in two more runs scored, as Lee and Natalie Taylor reached home.
The Panthers saw an opportunity to score later in the game, loading the bases in the fifth. However, Craft and the Golden Eagles prevented any runs, escaping the jam and leaving three runners stranded.
Southern Miss completed its second series win at home in the Sun Belt as Craft and the Golden Eagles retired the side in order.
Southern Miss outhit the Panthers eight to four, led by Natalie Taylor and Kinsley Gordon's two hits. Taylor recorded her eighth double of the season in the bottom of the third. Lee, Hannah Borden, Mikaila Fox and Shelby Allen all registered hits in the match.
