Golden Eagles Topple Coastal Carolina in Sun Belt Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss (4-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) men's tennis picked up a 4-1 win over Coastal Carolina (4-6, 0-1 Sun Belt) on Wednesday afternoon at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. Dakotah Bobo and Henry Lamchinniah's doubles win over the No. 68 doubles pair highlighted the first win in Sun Belt action for the Golden Eagles.
"That was a great match from our team and I am proud of the way they fought," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "Dakotah and Henry set the tone with their win in doubles and then Henry just had a great day. We'll have a couple days to get ready for Jacksonville State, but I am pleased with how we played today."
Pasawee Reansuwong and Shamirul Shahril evened the doubles score a one-all with a 6-3 win over Ryan Ata and Eric Tripathi on court three. Bobo and Lamchinniah then clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over the ranked duo of Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg.
Lamchinniah then played hero again in singles play as he clinched the winning point for Southern Miss with a 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 win over Wayenburg on court five. Freshman Olle Noltorp picked up a three-set win on court six with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 comeback win. The Golden Eagles' other singles win came from Olimjon Nabiev on court three. Nabiev was leaing Maj Tomac 6-3, 3-0, but won after Tomac had to retire from the match.
Coastal Carolina got a point back with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win from Guilherme Toresan on court four over Saheb Sodhi. The win over the Chanticleers marks the second-straight time Southern Miss knocked off after last year's win at the Sun Belt Tournament.
Southern Miss returns action on March 9 as it hosts Jacksonville State at 1 p.m.
