
Football Opens Sun Belt Play with Louisiana Visiting Hattiesburg Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss opens its third Sun Belt Conference football season this Saturday when they entertain Louisiana for a 6 p.m. contest set for Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
The game can be seen via ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network with audio only available through SouthernMiss.com.
After coming off a bye week, the Golden Eagles (1-3) look to snap a two-game losing streak against the Ragin' Cajuns (3-1).
UL comes into Hattiesburg having won at Wake Forest last weekend, 41-38, and average 37 points a contest under third-year coach Michael Desormeaux. Their 37 points per game ranks 25th in the country in the FBS.
This Saturday's meeting marks the 55th between the two schools as it marks the second-longest series in terms of games. The Golden Eagles own a 42-11-1 record over UL and have won the last 11 games in the series. In fact, the Golden Eagles are 23-1 against the Cajuns in Hattiesburg.
Tate Rodemaker has started the first four games for the Golden Eagles this season and lead the squad in passing with 440 yards on 44-of-71 throws with four touchdowns and four interceptions. Both Ethan Crawford and John White have each seen action from the quarterback spot as the duo have thrown for 242 and 211 yards, respectively.
The three top receiving targets for Southern Miss have been Larry Simmons, who has 10 catches for a team-best 219 yards. Ti Mims ranks next with a team-high 16 catches for 185 yards, while Kyirin Heath has nine catches for 142 yards and a pair of touchdown grabs.
On the ground, Dreke Clark leads the way with 167 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Kenyon Clay is second with 131 yards.
The defense has been led by both Dylan Lawrence and Tre' Pinkney, who both lead the squad with 25 tackles. Freshman Chris Jones ranks third at 17.
