Indoor Track and Field Opens First Day at Vanderbilt Invitational Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Indoor Track and Field squad opened the Vanderbilt Invitational Friday in Nashville, Tenn., with four first-place finishes.
The two-day meet finishes Saturday with the day getting to start at 8:30 a.m., when the men's heptathlon continues to open things. The meet can be followed on SEC Network+, while live scoring is also available by clicking here.
Reigning Sun Belt Conference men's Field Athlete of the Week De'Aundre Ward won his second Long Jump event in as many weeks as his final leap of 7.82 meters, a school-record, won him the seeded event at the competition.
Connor Mozee recorded an 18.78-meter toss in Weight Throw (open division) to win that event, while Piers Cameron finished fourth at 17.80 meters and Kaya Ludgood was sixth at 16.62 meters.
Zayne Palomino's 2.13-meter leap in the High Jump was good enough for a first-place tie, while Tyler Nichols registered a 1.99-meter leap in the High Jump and a 6.99-meter mark in the Long Jump (Unseeded) for a pair of fifth-place showings. Kelvin Chiku recorded a fifth place in the 1000-meters race with a 2:28.33.
On the women's side, Alana Simon posted a winning mark of 1.67 meters in the High Jump. In the 200-meter race, Trinity Benson posted third with a time of 24.39, while Jada McDougle ended in sixth at 24.52. The Distance Medley team of Kristina Stojanovic, Jaellene Burgee, Emme Bates and Sarah Parnell placed fifth for the Golden Eagles.
