HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain announced a contract extension Tuesday for men's golf coach Eddie Brescher, which will run through the 2025-26 season.
'We are excited to have Eddie leading our men's golf program into the future," said McClain. "He has done an excellent job of continuing to elevate the regional and national profile of our program, while also building important relationships in the community. We look forward to continued success under his leadership."
Brescher starts his sixth season at the helm of the job in the fall and has seen the program take great strides. Those improvements include the recruitment of players that have seen unprecedented success in the program as well as putting together schedules that have made the Golden Eagles more prominent on the national stage by playing events stretching from the East to West coast.
Over Brescher's first five seasons, the program has won five team titles and seven individual tournament crowns. Over his tenure, he has had players establish school records for lowest season round average and lowest for a career.
This past season, Brescher tutored graduate transfer Cameron Clarke, who became only the fifth Southern Miss individual to reach an NCAA Regional and the first since 2011.
"My family and I are very thankful for the confidence our university's leadership has in me to continue leading our men's golf program for the future," said Brescher. "We have fallen in love with Hattiesburg and the University of Southern Mississippi from the first day we arrived years ago. Simply put, The Brescher family is all in with EVERYTHING Southern Miss!
"I want to thank Dr. Joe Paul, Jeremy McClain, Brian Morrison, and many more for their continued support of Southern Miss Golf. They have helped us provide the best resources possible to our student athletes. To our Golden Tee donors…we have the best group of donors in the country. Each year they answer the call to support our vision of Southern Miss Golf. They are a massive part of our team's success, and we are very lucky to have this strong of a support system.
"Our past, present, and future student athletes... you are the life blood of this program. Everything we do is for you. We want every student athlete that plays here to graduate, win championships, and be prepared to provide for their families.
The future of Southern Miss Golf is very bright. More great things are on the horizon. I am excited to be a part of it… SMTTT."
The Golden Eagles open the 2023-24 season in September.
