Men’s Golf Has Three Awarded for All-Sun Belt Honors; Clarke Named Newcomer of the Year

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Three Southern Miss men's golfers were awarded all-league honors Tuesday by the Sun Belt Conference in a vote by the league's 14 coaches.
Graduate transfer Cameron Clarke (Pittsboro, Miss.) earned first-team honors as well as being named the league's Newcomer of the Year, while sophomore Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) garnered a spot on the second team and junior Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) earned selection to the third team.
Clarke participated in all 11 tournaments for the Golden Eagles in 2022-23 and enjoyed a team-high six Top 10 finishes - accounting for half the team's Top 10 showings during the year - including a pair of Top 5 showings during the year. His top finish was a 3rd-place tie at the Tiger Invitational by Jason Dufner (Opelika, Ala.) in which he shot a 208 (69-70-69) as well as a fourth-place tie at the Old Town Collegiate (Winston-Salem, N.C.) with a 205 (64-67-74).
His season stroke average of 71.09 is on pace to be the lowest for a season in school history. His low round for the year was 64 as he posted a total of nine of 33 rounds in the 60s during the year. He ended the year with 21 rounds of par or below. He currently ranks No. 6 among Golfstat's Head-to-Head Rankings for Sun Belt Conference players.
Dupuy, who also played in all 11 events for the Golden Eagles, enjoyed four Top 10, which included three Top 5 and two individual medalist showings for the season. He won back-to-back tournaments at the Little Rock Invitational with a 208 (69-67-72) and the White Sands Bahamas Invitational with a 204 (66-69-69) during the fall portion of the schedule. He also finished tied for fifth at the Oregon State Invitational with a 212 (74-68-70). He ended the year with a 71.76 stroke average and posted nine rounds in the 60s with his low round of the year at 66. Dupuy posted 16 rounds of par or below and currently ranks No. 11 by Golfstat on the Head-to-Head standings for Sun Belt players.
Latter played in all 11 tournaments and enjoyed his highest finish with a tie for 10th at the Tiger Invitational by Jason Dufner (Opelika, Ala.) with a 211 (67-72-72). This Golden Eagle enjoyed 20 of 33 rounds of par or below golf with a low round of 67. In addition, Latter collected four rounds in the 60s during the year and put together a season stroke average of 72.19. He currently ranks No. 19 in the Head-to-Head rankings by Golfstat for Sun Belt Conference players.
The other individual awards included Ben Carr of Georgia Southern being named Golfer of the Year and South Alabama's Hugo Thyr earning Freshman of the Year honors. The Sun Belt Coach of the Year went to Carter Collins of Georgia Southern.
