HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior right-hander Tanner Hall (Zachary, La.) earned the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday as released by the league office.
Hall limited Arkansas State last Friday night to three hits over seven innings with two walks and a career-high 15 strikeouts in a 12-1 series-opening victory.
He fanned at least two Red Wolves hitters five times, including the side twice - the last time coming in his final inning of work. Both of his walks came to start the second inning, but he retired the next three hitters on a pair of punch outs and a foul out to first. Hall then retired nine hitters in a row after that point before giving up his first hit to open the fifth inning. ASU's lone run came in the sixth.
The Golden Eagle All-American improved to 8-3 on the season with the victory, winning six of his seven Sun Belt starts this season.
Hall now becomes only the second league pitcher to win the award twice this season as the Golden Eagles have won the top weekly pitcher award from the league four times total this spring. For his career, this is the fourth league weekly award for Hall, who also was named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week on Monday.
The Golden Eagles return to action tonight as they play host to Tulane in a 6 p.m., contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. The game can be seen on ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
