NEW ORLEANS --Â After posting the lowest single season scoring average in program history, sophomore Momoka Ando has been tabbed Second Team All-Sun Belt, per the conference office on Friday morning. All-conference teams were determined by Golfstat national rankings.Â
"It's been really cool to see Mo's growth from year one to year two, and even better to see the conference recognize all the hard work she's put in," said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "This is just the tip of her potential and we cannot to see what next year holds for her and for the rest of our team."
Ando's season stroke average of 73.57 was the best of any Golden Eagle and bested Nichada Satusuk's previous record of 73.86 from the 2016-17 season. The Tokyo, Japan native started her sophomore campaign with a four-under 68 at the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala. She then followed the following tournament with a second-place finish at the Hoover Classic -- Southern Miss won the event as a team.Â
The Tokyo product delivered another top-10 finish at The Judson, Southern Miss' home event. Ando added a fourth-place finish at the Tchefuncta Invitational and rounded out her season with a third-place showing at the Sun Belt Championship in Daytona, Fla. Â
Ando posted a team-high 13 rounds under par and posted three rounds of 69 or lower. Ando is the first Golden Eagle to earn all-conference honors since Friend Chompitakdacha earned Third Team All-Conference USA in 2020. She's the first golfer to earn second team honors since Kelly Erasmus in 2017.Â
