SAN MARCOS, Texas— After inclement weather canceled Thursday and Friday's games, Southern Miss (16-17, 0-11 Sun Belt) and Texas State (25-14-1, 6-4-1 Sun Belt) played a doubleheader Saturday morning. The Golden Eagles fell 4-3 in game one and 4-2 in game two in San Marcos, Texas, on April 8.
The Bobcats extended their series lead 3-0.
Game one: Texas State 4, Southern Miss 3
- Southern Miss started the scoring in the top of the second as Kinsley Gordon singled to the catcher. After Scout Jennings reached on a fielding error by the Bobcat shortstop, she advanced to second and third on a throwing error by the second baseman, which aided Gordon to score at home because of a throwing error by the third baseman.
- Natalie Taylor hit her sixth home run of the year to left field in the top of the fourth. The Bobcats responded to the Golden Eagles' 2-0 lead with the bases loaded with a walked-in run.
- In the fifth inning, Texas State equalized the score after Sara Vanderford sent a sacrifice fly out to center field for Sydney Harvey to run home.
- In the top of the sixth, with one-off and a 2-0 count Lorna Agren fired a triple to right center. Jana Lee would advance to first on a walk, and Natalie Hurdle would come in as a pinch runner, but the Golden Eagles would be stranded on the corners after Natalie Taylor and Kinlsey Gordon struck out swinging.
- Using a single from Claire Ginder and a throw to move her to second, Texas State scored two runs to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
- In the top of the seventh inning, the Golden Eagles made one final attempt to retake the lead. Shelby Allen singled up the middle, a pitch hit Alexis Dittmer, and Hannah Borden singled up the middle to score Shelby Allen to make the score 4-3. The Golden Eagles trailed behind but fell short when Lorna Agren was forced to leave the batter's box when she struck out looking for the third out.
- Southern Miss made a valiant effort, collecting six hits and committing no errors. Morgan Leinstock (9-11) was given the loss in the circle after walking four and allowing six hits while striking out four batters.
Game two: Texas State 4, Southern Miss 2
- Texas State broke into the scoring column early when Sara Vanderford singled to right field. Piper Randolph reached home after she made her way around the bases from a fielding error, advancement on the throw, and a ground out to Hannah Borden after a sacrifice bunt.
- Southern Miss equalized the score in the top of the fourth. Walking to first, Lorna Agren then stole second. Agren would advance to third as Jane Lee grounded out to second. When Natalie Taylor singled to shortstop, Agren finally scored.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Bobcat centerfielder Piper Randolph homered to right field for a three-run home run to put Texas State ahead by three.
- Jana Lee sent her fourth home run of the season out of the park in the top of the sixth, but Southern Miss came up shy of taking the lead in the following innings.
