Melich Leads The Charge After Day One In Monroe

MONROE, La. --Â Elena Melich leads all Southern Miss golfers after the first day of play at the ULM Invitational in Monroe, La. The sophomore finished her day five-over par to sit in a tie for 15th at Desiard Country Club.Â
Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles are in eighth after Monday's opening two rounds. Melich started her day by firing a one-over 73 and followed with a four-over 76. Her first round was highlighted by four birdies to go along with three in the second round.Â
Playing as an individual, Fernanda Gorostiaga is in 20th following her second round on Monday afternoon. Gorostiaga finished with a three-over 75 and a four-over 76. Freshman Taylor Trible answered her opening-round 81 with an even-par 72 to finish the day. Her second round vaulted into a tie for 26th. Momoka Ando is four spots behind at 31st after firing a 75 and 79.Â
Alma Betoret and Jacee Fields are in 42nd and 44th, respectively. Southern Miss' first golfer will go on Hole 1 at 7:45 a.m. and the next four will follow until 8:15 a.m. Gorostiaga will start her final round at 8:38 a.m.Â
ULM leads after the first 36 holes with a one-over 577. The Golden Eagles fired a 36-over 612 to sit 24 strokes ahead of Stephen F. Austin.Â
