HATTIESBURG, Miss.--For its final regular-season meet before the SBC Conference Championships, the Southern Miss track and field team travels to Starkville, Miss., to compete in the Maroon and White Invitational hosted by Mississippi State on April 28 and 29.Â
"Having one more chance before conference excites us. The team has been putting in the time and effort, and at every race, they come out and either get better or discover areas where they need to make adjustments."Â Jon Stuart, the head coach, expressed his eagerness to see how they perform.Â
Last weekend, the Golden Eagles had a successful showing at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Smilla Kolbe, a sophomore, won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:06.78, breaking the previous school record. The women's relay teams both finished first. With a time of 10:55.86, returning competitor Sarah Parnell set a new personal best and dominated the 3000-meter steeple chase.Â
The women's hammer throw will begin the action on Friday at 9:30 am, while the men's 5000-meter race will conclude it at 7:50 pm. Day two of the meet will begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the women's shot put and end at 4:55 p.m. with the men's four-by-400-meter relay.Â
