Track and Field Replaces Several All Time Program Records in California

AZUSA, Calif.-- The Southern Miss track and field team showed off and out at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. April 13-15 coming away with personal bests and all time record times.
"It was a great weekend of racing. We were able to come away with some personal bests and everyone had a top 10 performance in school history as well," said assistant track and field coach Nick Gibson.
Dylan Evans, Smilla Kolbe, Isabela Ross, and Erin Phelps represented the Golden Eagles for this three day event. Ross and Phelps started off the competition for the Black and Gold running in the 10,000 meter run on Thursday night. Ross ran her first collegiate 10k with a time of 34:33.29 for a 14th place finish and the second best time in program history. Phelps followed in right behind her and placed 17th with a time of 34:51.92 for a personal best and recorded the third best time in the program replacing a record that stood since 2013.
Kolbe and Evans continued the competition Friday and Saturday. Kolbe competed in the 800-meter run and the 1500-meter run while Evans ran the 400-meter run and the 800-meter run. Smilla sits with the second best time in the program for the 800-meter run with her time of 2:08.13 placing 44th. Her time replaces Sandra Spottz's time of 2:09.27 from 2019. In her 1500-meter race she posted a personal best and found a fourth-place finish at 4:25.74 replacing Spottz's time for the third best finish. Evans rounded out the race day with a 51st finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.25 and his time of 1:51.82 in the 800-meter run marked a personal best and notched him the seventh best all time record that stood since 1981.
