HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss (7-12, 1-4 Sun Belt) men's tennis team heads to Georgia as it closes out the regular season with a pair of matches in the Peach State. On Saturday, April 15, the Golden Eagles take on Georgia Southern (14-6, 3-3 Sun Belt) in Statesboro at 9 a.m. CST. They'll then head to Atlanta to play Georgia State (5-15, 2-4 Sun Belt) at 12 p.m. CST on Sunday afternoon.
"We're riding some momentum after the win over Louisiana last week," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "These two matches are going to be a good measuring stick as we inch closer to the Sun Belt Tournament."
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 6-1 win over Louisiana last Sunday. It was the first Sun Belt win in program history and snapped a seven-match losing skid. Olimjon Nabiev picked up his 10th win of the season and Antoine Audrain moved to 7-4 with a singles win on court six.
Georgia State heads into the match as losers of three of its last five, including the last two. The Eagles most recently dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 74 South Alabama and a 4-2 battle to Troy – both on the road. They are led by Judson Blair (12-3) and Pierre Mouseca (13-5). On the Doubles end, the team of Valentin Dun and Alexandros Roumpis come in with a record of 7-2 to pace them.
In Atlanta, Georgia State owns a 4-2 record at home. Overall, it's 5-15 and riding a mini wave of wins. Prior to losing at South Alabama last Monday, the Panthers had won two-straight over Charlotte and Troy. Those wins snapped a streak of six-straight losses. Diego Morais leads Georgia State in singles play at 6-7, and for doubles, Morais and Roberts Grinvalds are 2-3.
