Beach Volleyball Drops Two Matches to Top-Ranked Opponents

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern Miss drops two matches in an abbreviated second day of LSU Beach Invitational. All matches today were on a rolling schedule and scores were final as soon as either team reached its third point.
"We had a great weekend of volleyball," said fourth-year head coach Shawn Taylor. "We had to play in the heat and in the swamp and it was nice to walk away with a set of wins on day one. We had to adapt over the course of the weekend for various reasons, including the threat of weather. I thought the team did a great job of managing the changes."
"Today's matches were played to decision rather than completion, which means all matches are halted once a team earned three wins. Any match progress is considered stopped right where it's at and ruled a no contest. The hard part about playing to decision versus completion is some of the hard-fought individual matches don't get recognized. Maybe even more so than a hitter throwing a no-hitter through eight to get a no decision. Our 3s and 5s had a great opportunity to get a team point against Washington and we had a similar chance to put a point or two on the board against LSU but they were able to get three wins on us."
Game One – No. 13 Washington 3, Southern Miss 0 (Unfinished)
Southern Miss suffered the first of two losses on the day to 13th-ranked Washington. Playing to decision, the Huskies were able to grab their third point of the day leaving the third and fifth sets unfinished.
At the third position, Hallie Phelan and Kellie Garraway took the first set over Washington but were unable to play for a point.
