HATTIESBURG, Miss.--Â For the first time since 2018, the Southern Miss track and field team travels to Tallahassee, Florida, to compete in the Florida State Relays at Mike Long Track on Thursday and Friday.
"We'll witness some of the South's strongest competition, so the challenge is high. Gaining momentum is crucial at this point in the season, and our kids are up for the task, according to head coach Jon Stuart.
The Golden Eagles are coming off their first outdoor meet of the season, where three on the men's side found event wins and two on the women's side.Â
Events will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with the women's hammer throw, and the men's 5,000-meter run will conclude the day. The women's discus will kick off Friday's competition at 10:30 a.m., and the men's four-by-400-meter relay will wrap things up at 2:50 p.m.
Southern Miss found massive success at this meet years back with three school records in the javelin, women's 1500-meter run, and the men's four-by-100-meter relay. The women won the first-place title over Florida, Florida State, Liberty, Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Dartmouth with 130 points.Â
Southern Miss will take the stage with Auburn, Florida, FAMU, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kansas, and Syracuse.Â
